British subjects. The present number of persons of Chinese

parentage registered as British protected persons is twelve

of whom eight are natives of Sarawak, one was naturalised

in Canada, one in auritius, and one in the Straits Settle-

ments, and one, Lee Chong Chiang,,who, born in Hongkong in

1875 of Swatow (Chinese) parents and holding Langkok pass-

port No. 24/11, was registered as a british protected person

in 1911 and has continued to be registered as such in each

succeeding year.

I enclose list of all persons born in hongkong of

Chinese parents registered a this Consulate, specifying

the authority on which they have been registered. The forme

A 100 b and c.8.11 are Hongkong Eritish-born certificates

of identical form as specified in Sir E. Sator's circular

of August 22nd, 1904. The dates of birth on the Bangkok

passports are given in Chinese months but foreign years,

and the parents are described" "of such and such a place"

with no mention whether they were British or Chinese sub-

jects.
